It's wonderful to hear success stories about TRACTION graduates. Kulan first participated in Sailaway programs with Briswest Care before getting involved in the TRACTION Bicycle Build and Small Engines programs. He continued with TRACTION helping others as a Student Mentor.
Kulan was then able to undertake training with BABI Youth & Family Services and has just completed his certificate training in Work Readiness, gained a White Card and has been successful in finding employment.
BABI Youth & Family Services is a pioneering organisation that has been helping young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness since the early 1980's.
Chris, one of the BABI team shared, "I feel the foundations that Kulan built in his life at TRACTION were significant in making this possible. Be proud."
COLONY BMX founder and pro BMX rider Clint Millar visited TRACTION twice this term to see the program in action. It's great when the community takes an interest in TRACTION. Clint visited early in the term, shared his story as one of Australia's pioneers on the pro BMX circuit and how he took the plunge to start COLONY BMX - Australia's own premium BMX brand. It was great to have Clint along, check in with TRACTION participants and on his second visit, help them finish off their bike projects on their last day.
Clint also brought the other 'top dog' along - co-CEO and COLONY mascot "Hardy" the jug - Jack Russell-Pug cross of course!

The TRACTION team had a ball at the “In Your Neighbourhood”event yesterday at Greenslopes, organised by Brisbane City Council’s award-winning Cycling Brisbane program. It was a perfect Brisbane Saturday morning to get out and about and TRACTION mentors Karl, Luke and Richard lead the charge providing free bicycle safety checks and tune-ups for the public. The event was held beside the Norman Creek bikeway and was extremely well attended by avid cyclists and families alike. There were heaps of free activities, including:
‘Rider’, one of the superhero characters of the Brisbane City Council’s active school travel program even made an appearance!
The “In Your Neighbourhood” event was the first held by Cycling Brisbane with the purpose of encouraging people to ride more often. The next event will be held on 28th April, 8-11am at Kedron Brook Bikeway (near Mitchelton Football Club, off Osborne Rd), Everton Park. Click HERE for more details.
